Peter Pots Pottery was started by Oliver Greene at the Rhode Island School of Design in 1948. The pottery has been in continuous daily operation ever since. Since 1954 we have occupied the historic Glen Rock Mill in West Kingston, RI.
Oliver and Elizabeth Greene have garnered many awards for their ceramic designs, including the Metropolitan Museum of Art's Good Design Show, the Syracuse Museum's Ceramic National and Wichita Museum shows.
They have also designed and produced pieces for a number of prominent businesses. Among these were the Gorham Silver Company, for whom Peter Pots designed and handcrafted stoneware pieces with Gorham silver tops (pictured above).
Each piece is completely handcrafted and signed "Peter Pots". Because each piece is handmade, there is a slight variation between pieces. If you are ordering several pieces, we make every effort to pick items as similar as possible.
If you pass through the southern Rhode Island area, we invite you to visit our showroom, located just off Route 138 five miles east of Interstate 95.

IS PETER POTS POTTERY SAFE IN THE DISHWASHER AND MICROWAVE?
The pottery is perfectly safe in the dishwasher. It may be used in the microwave, but we recommend against heating food on our plates in the microwave. The hot spot of food on an otherwise cold plate can cause cracking. Instead use a pyrex or plastic container approved for microwave use. The casseroles are guaranteed ovenproof in conventional ovens.
IS ANY SPECIAL CARE NEEDED?
No, but since the underside of most pieces is unglazed, we recommend using plate separators or paper towels when stacking pieces to prevent dulling the glossy glazed surface.
As with any ceramic, avoid thermal shock by preheating larger pieces like tea pots and coffee carafes with warm water before pouring in boiling liquids.
IS PETER POTS LEAD-SAFE?
Yes, Peter Pots Pottery is lab tested to be lead-safe.
